Today, we venture into the scenic wonders of Arusha National Park, a diverse ecological gem nestled at the foothills of Mount Meru. Accompanied by an armed park ranger and expert birding guide, we embark on a rewarding nature walk, allowing intimate and immersive encounters with the park’s residents. The forest canopy shelters vibrant species such as Hartlaub’s Turaco, Narina Trogon, and Crowned Eagle, while the Momella Lakes attract impressive numbers of waterbirds including Greater and Lesser Flamingos, herons, and various duck species.

In addition to prolific birdlife, the park offers memorable sightings of charismatic mammals — giraffes elegantly browsing the woodland edges, playful troops of colobus monkeys leaping through the treetops, and, with luck, the majestic buffalo and elusive bushbuck.

At dawn, we set out for a rare and enlightening encounter with the Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in East Africa. Living in harmony with the land surrounding Lake Eyasi, the Hadzabe maintain ancient traditions — from crafting their own hunting tools to gathering wild foods and communicating through an expressive click-based language. Joining them in their early-morning routine offers a profound glimpse into a way of life virtually unchanged for thousands of years.

After this immersive cultural experience, we return to Karatu for a relaxing lunch before continuing our journey into the wild heart of Tanzania.
