Oman is actively advancing sustainable tourism in line with Oman Vision 2040., with a firm commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Tourism is no longer a marginal industry—it has become a key economic driver worldwide. In 2019 alone, global tourism revenue exceeded USD 9 trillion, placing it on par with the agricultural sector. That year, 1.5 billion tourists contributed to this global figure.
Oman welcomed 3.5 million tourists, with the majority visiting from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)region. As the Sultanate strengthens its role in global tourism, sustainable development and environmental responsibility remain at the core of its strategy.
ITB Berlin 2024, stands as one of the world’s largest travel and tourism trade shows, attracting over 100,000 attendeesfrom more than 100 countries. The Sultanate of Oman was proudly recognized as the official host country for this prestigious event, showcasing its leadership in sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and community engagement.
Oman’s approach to sustainable tourism focuses on developing the tourism sector while protecting natural resources, cultural heritage, and social values. This vision aligns with national goals to promote economic growth, create job opportunities for Omani youth, combat climate change, and ensure a future of peace, prosperity, and environmental resilience for all.
