Pick up from any location in Muscat and depart along the scenic Muscat/Nizwa Highway at the foothill of the dramatic Hajar mountains.

10:00 AM WANDER AROUND BAHLA SOUQ & DISCOVER BAHLA’s UNESCO FORT

We began our visit to Bahla by visiting the recently restored sooq, which sells homemade ropes, daggers, copper artifacts, pottery, and Omani sweets (halwa). Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating to the pre-Islamic era, was rebuilt in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was largely rebuilt in the 17th century. Closed for many years, the fort underwent extensive restoration and was re-opened in 2012.

The slopes of Jebel Shams cascade down from Oman’s high mountain peaks which are cut into by steep valleys in Oman called Wadis.

The lifestyle here is limited by the availability of water and so Goat herding has been the traditional way of life, and goat hair is used to create woven products, which you can buy as a souvenir.

The great canyon of Wadi Nakhar is often called ‘The Grand Canyon and with a drop of up to 1,000 meters.
