Sustainable Development of Oman Tourism, aligning with the Oman Vision 2040. The Sultanate is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050. 

Tourism is no longer a marginal sector or a secondary source of revenue for countries. In 2019 alone, the global revenues from tourism amounted to over 9 trillion US dollars, making it similar in size to the agricultural sector. 1.5 billion tourists around the globe spent this tremendous amount. The Sultanate’s share was 3.5 million, most from the countries in the Middle East and North Africa region. 

ITB Berlin 2024, one of the world’s most extensive travel and tourism shows, with over 100,000 attendees from 100 countries. The Sultanat was honored as the official host country of ITB Berlin 2024. This event witnessed Oman’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices, cultural preservation, and community engagement.

The Sultanate concept of sustainable tourism: the potential to develop the tourism industry while protecting the country’s natural resources, culture, and society to ensure economic growth, secure job opportunities for Omani youth, protect the planet from the impact of climate change and environmental degradation, and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF OMAN TOURISM

The Sultanate seeks to systematically implement sustainable development goals in cooperation with private-sector institutions and civil society through its various sectors, specifically tourism. This aligns with the ninth five-year plan and the Omani Tourism Strategy 2040.

Investing in sustainability has become a cornerstone of Oman’s tourism development strategy. The country is on a mission to preserve its natural and cultural treasures while embracing innovative technologies and eco-friendly initiatives. 

The Sustainable City – Yiti. An investment value of nearly one billion US dollars.

Oman Botanic Garden will be the largest of its kind in the Arabian Peninsula and one of the largest in the world.

Alila Hinu Bay. Eco-friendly luxury resort improves natural light and ventilation.

Ras Al Jinz Turtle Sanctuary Eco-Camp. An internationally- renowned nesting site for the endangered giant Green Turtles.

Wadi Dawkah National Sanctuary is a UNESCO site in ‘The Land of Frankincense.’ For millennia, the natural park with 5,000 frankincense trees was an essential stop along the ancient Frankincense Trail. 

Arabian Oryx National Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Oman’s central desert region, home to rare and endangered fauna.

Oman Environment Authority initiative to cultivate 1 million mangrove seedlings.
