The legendary Chinese explorer Zheng He (1371–1433 or 1435) a Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral during the early Ming Dynasty.
Zheng He commanded expeditionary voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. His voyages were remarkable for their size and distance, as they were undertaken decades before the European Age of Exploration. Zheng He’s fleet included dozens of ships and tens of thousands of sailors, which was unprecedented at the time.

The conference day included research papers by specialists to review the long-standing Omani-Chinese relationship.
We were honored at Panorama Travel to organize a special program for them exploring Oman’s historical ties to maritime trade routes, as Oman has a rich maritime history and was a key player in Indian Ocean trade networks.
The academic program includes visits to Omani cultural institutions, museums, and historians discussing shared maritime heritage and historical connections.
The highlight of the program was the visit to the captain of the “The Jewel of Muscat”. A historically significant ship that was reconstructed based on a 9th-century Arabian dhow. The reconstruction of the Jewel of Muscat was a joint project between Oman and Singapore, completed in 2010. The Jewel of Muscat embarked on a voyage from Oman to Singapore in 2010, retracing the ancient trade routes. This journey symbolized the historical connections and cultural exchanges between the Arab world and Southeast Asia. The ship is now displayed in Singapore as a testament to the rich maritime history and the enduring spirit of exploration and trade.
Oman built the longest trading sea route in the world more than a thousand years ago between the historic port of Sohar and Canton, China. We look forward to restoring that glory and building on it with our friends in the International Zheng He Society.
