An outstanding example of Omani Islamic architecture. Built in 1711 AD by the Imam Sultan Bin Saif. 1624 to 1738 was the golden era for Oman, becoming a strong naval power with commercial and political influence stretching south from Oman along the eastern coast of Africa all the way to the outer waters of Zanzibar.
The Castle already contained a world-class cannon collection from Portuguese, Spanish, and British along with several Omani cannons.
This sense of richness is carried through the Castle in the architectonic flow of multiple arches and vaulted ceilings. Halls, stairways, and important rooms are distinguished by aesthetically curved surfaces. Fine plasterwork embellishes walls, ceilings, and columns, even on the main firing platform of each tower.
Continue to wadi the Sahatan and take part in a honey-tasting at a local honey farm. There are two types of honey bees in the Sultanate. The domesticated bees are considered the predominant type in the Sultanate and have a historic connotation with the old Omani beekeeper.
