The Jewel of Muscat was inspired by a wreck. In 1998 divers discovered the remains of a cargo ship, dating back to the 9th century. It contains a fortune in ceramics & gold. The treasure was Chinese, but the ship itself was Arab.
10 years later, on a beach in Oman work begins in reconstruction using an ancient technique. The entire ship was sewn together using ropes made from coconut fiber and it took a year to build.
A combined crew of sailors, archeologists, and historians risked life on a fantastic voyage following an ancient trade route over 5,000 Km Linking Arabia, India, and the far east.
After crossing 5,000 KM in 5 months of sailing the Jewel reaches its destination and the President of Singapore accepts the Ship (the Sultan’s gift) to become the centerpiece of the permanent exhibition on Arab seafaring in Singapore.
